1. Forest Regeneration of Secondary Stands in the PT. BUMWI Mangrove Concession, West Papua, Indonesia
Publication Date: January 2017
Authors: Mériadec Sillanpää, Juliana Vantellingen, Daniel A. Friess
Summary: Within the PT. BUMWI concession (West Papua, Indonesia), over 21 survey transects totalling 126 plots were established in different aged secondary forests to estimate the forest regeneration It was estimated that for secondary forests to achieve forest structure and harvest volumes similar to that of primary forests, the harvest rotation period has to be extended from 25 to 30 years. By doing so, the forest management will be able to maintain the ecological integrity of the mangrove and the high harvest volume potential.
